Vehicle Shipping Tips

As professionals in the transportation industry, it is our responsibility to make sure that your vehicle is transported in a safe and efficient manner to its proper destination. Through GPS tracking we can provide our customers with real-time tracking and status updates throughout the shipment process. Professional dispatchers are constantly monitoring your shipment to make sure that it is on schedule. If unforeseen delays occur, we will contact you immediately to advise you regarding such.

Just like moving your household items, transporting your vehicle can be a stressful experience. Here are a few points that can help make the process as simple and easy as possible.

  • Please provide the correct address and phone numbers for your pick up and destination locations, including zip codes. Alternate phone numbers are critical.

  • Have your vehicle in good working order. Make sure tires are properly inflated, that the vehicle starts, and has a minimum of a quarter of a tank of fuel.

  • Remove all personal items from the interior of the car. Department of Transportation regulations state that household items DO NOT travel in your vehicle during shipping. This changes the weight specifications for the entire load and hampers compliance monitoring.

  • Absolutely DO NOT ship prescription drugs or alcohol in your vehicle!!! This could make your vehicle subject to impound by Department of Transportation.

  • When the driver shows up to load your vehicle, do a thorough inspection with him. Get a signed copy of this inspection report from the driver for your records.

  • Ask for the driver’s cell phone number so you can keep in contact with them.

  • Confirm estimated time of arrival of your vehicle with the driver. Any variances over one day need to be reported to your Nationwide Auto Logistics representative.

  • Absolutely no pets of any kind can be transported in your vehicle.

  • Please provide the driver with instructions for any type of aftermarket alarm systems installed on your vehicle.

Following these few steps will help make your vehicle transport experience a positive one!

Do not be fooled by the companies offering cheap freight. As they say, you get what you pay for. If you are selecting your transportation company off the internet, use a search engine to perform a background check. Do they provide references? Do they provide status updates on your shipment? Do they assign a specific dispatcher to your vehicle? Are there any other costs associated with the shipment (such as a fuel surcharge) or is my rate a final rate?

By asking these critical questions ahead of time, you will uncover any potential surprises at the time of shipment. A good transportation company has nothing to hide, and will be honest and up front about what costs you should expect to incur. Ask for a binding quote.
